Last Moments

A
rrow felt the callous breath of death haunting his body as he grasped to hold on just a little longer. Each blow felt stronger than the last—his blood gushed from his body like rainfall.
Fred grabbed Arrow by the throat pulled him close. “Did you think that you could defeat me? Did you actually think you could protect that filth? Know this…” Fred snarled as he slowly pressed the spikes of his right hand into Arrow’s heart. “For your disobedience I will take my time on her, so that she feels every last drop of blood drain from her body…”
Fred began to choke, gasping for a breath; his eyes widened as he looked down. Arrow had plunged his hand through Fred’s chest and ripped through his father’s blackened heart.
“No, father, you will never harm her,” Arrow whispered as tears streaked his bruised face.
Fred’s soul drained away the life from his eyes. His body wilted and dropped from the sky as it turned into ash and began to pour itself into Arrow’s body.

j

The pain rushed through Nika’s body so intensely that she felt her body shake. It was like she went into a nightmare. Her body filled with pain and her will to live fought against her desire to die. She opened her eyes as consciousness came back to her. Patrick and Josh were putting pressure on her belly; Sky and Amaris pulled a stone branch from inside her.
“You must fight. I cannot help you with the pain,” Na-Jessia wept.
Patrick and Sky looked at each other in confusion.
Zed answered their expressions in a solemn tone. “Nika has set Na-Jessia free. They no longer share the same heartbeat; the pain Nika goes through is hers to bear alone now.”
“Nika, where is Arrow?” Josh’s voice sounded soft and musical, like the sound of a steady stream.
Nika knew no speech would come to her; she was so weak that opening her eyes took everything she had. She looked up. No longer were Arrow and his father in view, but she knew they were there. One of them now lost an extreme amount of blood, which came down on Nika and her friends like raindrops. They all followed Nika’s gaze as limp body came into view. It landed a few feet from Chianna before completely turning to ash. Nika struggled with her eyesight as it started to leave her—who was it? Please! She begged her heart—please don’t let it be Arrow!
Her body quickly went cold and she breathed in and nothing but blackness came to her. She could no longer hold her eyes open.
Arrow flew to Nika’s side; he scooped her up in his arms and fell to his knees. Zed and Na-Jessia rushed to Arrow’s side, helping him to stand.
“Rin non sindisa.” Blood Fairy language sung out through his tears.
The stone tree split apart to reveal a large portal made of opal waters. Arrow turned and said with every last ounce of energy he could muster, “If I move quickly, I can give Nika back her life.”
Arrow didn’t need to say any more; they all understood that he was going to see Alexander. Zed and Na-Jessia helped Arrow to the portal and he quickly disappeared through the opal waters. Zed flopped to the ground as Na-Jessia watched the beautiful portal blacken darker than the night.
Na-Jessia felt all hope flee from her body. “If she had never freed me, she would be OK,” Na-Jessia cried.

Christmas ideas

Some time ago my mother sent out a letter to all her kids, I was recently going through my box of cards when I ran into this letter. Some of the ideas in it I have implemented into my holiday season and perhaps some of you may wish to as well.

..."Thanksgiving and Christmas isn't a time to spend ton more or rush more. It is a time to slow down and give (yep! that is dirty word (or seems to be anymore) GIVE). Somehow in this crazy world we have decided that giving is all about the money, and holidays are all about crowding everything and everyone into two days, two huge meals and tons of gifts that tend to make it in to the discard pile shortly there after.
Everyone is rushing and squeezing and shouting so loud that no one can even hear, it tends to be a bit overwhelming. At the end of the season do find yourself taking a deep breathing and letting a sigh of relief that its all over. Well here are some idea on how to slow down and try not to rush so much, perhaps you may be able to feel a bit more joy if you do.

Dinner:
1. invite only one side of a family at a time, either yours or your spouses side. Don't try to fit in both, when we try to fit in both either at the same time or in the same day, not only do you but both families also get short changed.
2. anyone who couldn't make to dinner, invite them to share your leftovers or have them over for coffee and a dessert on another night of the week. (not everything has to be fit in on the weekend)
3. If someone is thinking of having a dinner maybe suggest pot luck, everyone brings something and no one is feeling trapped about how much to make. (remember pot luck rule, take enough for your family plus three)
4. Remember the holiday season starts on Thanksgiving, which gives you 29 days not just 2.

Gifts:
All to often the holidays are so focused on gifts that people forget to think of not only the person you're buying for but what they may like or need.
1. Make a gift. Yes, I realize that those three words have a dirty stigma to them, but if you really think about that person, you could probably come up with an idea that is prefect for them-that no store could ever duplicate.
2 Or maybe give something that you already own that someone has admired every time they has seen it.  With it give a card or a (hand written) letter on why you gave them this. It will become a treasure to them. Small gestures tend to be the things people remember the most, not the grand expensive item the didn't last.
3 Coupons. No I'm not talking about things you use at the store, but rather personal coupons. "One free night baby-sitting 6-9", "One day of get-out of kitchen duty", "Afternoon at my house for lunch" or offer services, weeding, cleaning house, washing car, or if you sew "free sewing job" crochet job..etc make sure you put hours, days or items on your coupon. You first think how lame and "cheap" these are but I can assure you there is no child out there who doesn't want to get out of doing a chore without being disciplined for it. Parents that don't want a few hours away from home without the kids. These coupons have more thought and quality in them then a lot of gifts bought at a store.
4. If your kids/spouse are already spoiled, then would be a good time to teach them the real meaning of giving. After all when God sent His son, He didn't send him to a party, but to save us. What could you ever buy that could match that?
The most important thing is not to forget about someone. Everyone is important no the gifts praise tag. if the price tag is all that matters then why don't we just give tags.

Time:
This one is hard, for some. But at the same time it really isn't you just an idea of how to use it.
1. Tree trimming party, have you tree up and the lights on. Invite someone over and decorate it together, Christmas cookies are always good to serve.
2. Good old holiday movie night, popcorn and a old fashion movie. You would be surprised at how many people will actually like the old movie.
3. Go Sledding
4. Game night
5. Caroling party, not every caroling party means to go door to door singing Christmas carols, although that tends to be fun. You can also have cookies, hot chocolate and sit around the living room singing carols.

I guess the whole point of the holidays is to slow down and enjoy the people that are there with you. Time is the only in this world that is spent and will never come back. Life is not a video game there is no restart button, and no play it again. What you have in front of you should be enjoyed. Thanksgiving and Christmas come once a year, make this season count for you and yours."

My mother always had a way of putting thing in to perspective and giving ideas on how to make something old have the feel of brand new.

So from me to you,
Merry Christmas

Micro-Stories at the end of a novel?

I have been writing for the better part of my life, whether it is just a little micro-story only two pages long (hand written) or an 80,000-word novel. At the end of my latest released novel, Reawakening Oath, I got to thinking, I have all these micro-stories (that some how tend to lean toward the horror side) why not add them? And that is exactly what I did.

It is a shame, at least in my point of view, to have a story of any sort to go unread. I then took notice that 99% of my short stories ending up being a bit on the horror side. I riffled through the drawer containing my poem scraps (poems that are pretty much written on scraps of paper), and short stories for hours before I came across one that would some-what stick with the feel of Reawakening Oath.

I was curious and wondered how many other authors have included short stories at the end of a novel. I did a little research (not an extreme amount of research, just a little) and only found a handful of authors who have included short stories within their novels. I am naturally curious about my readers (any readers) interests and would like to know just how many people would complete a book and then find that little gem in the back and feel as though they just got a sweet treat?

That also brings another question to mind, when I write my novels they tend to be fantasy character driven, but my short stories (hate to sound repetitive) always have some sort of gruesome ending. Like I said before it took me hours to find a story that I already had written that didn’t end gruesomely.

Halfway through the drawer I gave up and wrote a new short story intended to go within Reawakening Oath, but alas the horror took over and devoured the heroine. So I ask, if you found a short story within the pages of a novel just how important, to you would it be to have the same feel as the novel? And how many of you would enjoy seeing more short stories at the back of a novel you have just read?

write your own adventure

I used to love reading those choose your own adventure books, it made me feel like I was the one writing the tale. Of course as years have passed and books have taken so many different roads, I see less book where you can choose your own adventure.
I still love to read, just about anything I pick up, although it is fun sometimes to make your own adventure, I suppose that is why I write.

So just for fun, would you join me in writing our own adventure. Where ever one stops another can pick up, and on the story goes...

Horror of a fairy tale

The horror of a fairy tale is that most are started and never finished, characters get life by writing and in reality every author has a serious spit personality disorder, you'd have to, in order to make each of your characters breathe life with in the pages you write.

As an author it is my job to make you fall in love, laugh, hate and most of all be able to see yourself as the hero, or the villain, which ever suits your fancy. Questions need to asked and pondered, not every book will answer your question but then there is a reason, after all it might be answered in book two.

So with that I am give you a glimpse to my novel "Justice Trail," you can find it on amazon and kindle, but to use the saving code you must go to  createspace.com just click the link and it will take you there, use the code TD4T4ECA and get $1.00 off.
So here is a quick look in to the middle of all the going on's  inside Justice Trail, leave a  comment, subscribe, follow me.

Pg.100

They walked up to the man, who stood there like he was frozen.
Nika wondered doubtfully if this was the man her dad was talking
about.
“Do you remember me, Mr. Naught?” Arrow asked.
“Shhh. I’m a tree. You were followed and if I start talking, she’ll
know I’m not a tree,” Gary said to Arrow.
“I wasn’t followed—she came with me,” Arrow said, trying not to
laugh.
“Oh, well then, would you like a heap of pudding? Or perhaps
some stone jelly, it will have to be cold because I think my stove is
angry with me. Look, he burnt off all my hair,” Gary said, pointing to
his scorched head.
Nika and Arrow exchanged looks that said exactly what they were
both thinking: he’s nuts.
“Well, we came with a message for you,” Arrow said.
Gary was crouching on the ground, filling a bucket with stones.
“A message for me? Hum, this sounds like a trap! Are you working
for the stove? I know the stove and I had some disagreements but
he could have just said something to me personally. All this sneaking
around send you to carry messages for him!” Gary said, looking at
them with suspicion.
“No, a message from Manny DeWinter,” Arrow said.
Gary then stood up and the confused look that had been on his
face left him immediately.
“Quickly come inside.” His voice was now as sane as theirs.
He pushed them into a tiny chair and Nika was forced to sit on
Arrow’s lap. There were no windows and no light, but strangely a low
glow came from Gary.
“You say you’ve brought a message from Master DeWinter. What
are your names, then?” he demanded, pointing a wooden spoon
inches from their face.
“I’m Nika DeWinter, Manny’s daughter, and this is my friend Arrow
Darneel,” Nika stuttered.
He looked at her with little belief and then grabbed her chin, prying
his eyes into hers. “All right, so you are.” Then he stared hard at
Arrow. “Darneel? Darnee…” He cut his whisper short and took a step
back, straightening his form with strength and authority and never
taking his eyes off Arrow.
“What’s the message?” Gary demanded.
“She lives,” Nika said slowly.
