Last Moments

A
rrow felt the callous breath of death haunting his body as he grasped to hold on just a little longer. Each blow felt stronger than the last—his blood gushed from his body like rainfall.
Fred grabbed Arrow by the throat pulled him close. “Did you think that you could defeat me? Did you actually think you could protect that filth? Know this…” Fred snarled as he slowly pressed the spikes of his right hand into Arrow’s heart. “For your disobedience I will take my time on her, so that she feels every last drop of blood drain from her body…”
Fred began to choke, gasping for a breath; his eyes widened as he looked down. Arrow had plunged his hand through Fred’s chest and ripped through his father’s blackened heart.
“No, father, you will never harm her,” Arrow whispered as tears streaked his bruised face.
Fred’s soul drained away the life from his eyes. His body wilted and dropped from the sky as it turned into ash and began to pour itself into Arrow’s body.

The pain rushed through Nika’s body so intensely that she felt her body shake. It was like she went into a nightmare. Her body filled with pain and her will to live fought against her desire to die. She opened her eyes as consciousness came back to her. Patrick and Josh were putting pressure on her belly; Sky and Amaris pulled a stone branch from inside her.
“You must fight. I cannot help you with the pain,” Na-Jessia wept.
Patrick and Sky looked at each other in confusion.
Zed answered their expressions in a solemn tone. “Nika has set Na-Jessia free. They no longer share the same heartbeat; the pain Nika goes through is hers to bear alone now.”
“Nika, where is Arrow?” Josh’s voice sounded soft and musical, like the sound of a steady stream.
Nika knew no speech would come to her; she was so weak that opening her eyes took everything she had. She looked up. No longer were Arrow and his father in view, but she knew they were there. One of them now lost an extreme amount of blood, which came down on Nika and her friends like raindrops. They all followed Nika’s gaze as limp body came into view. It landed a few feet from Chianna before completely turning to ash. Nika struggled with her eyesight as it started to leave her—who was it? Please! She begged her heart—please don’t let it be Arrow!
Her body quickly went cold and she breathed in and nothing but blackness came to her. She could no longer hold her eyes open.
Arrow flew to Nika’s side; he scooped her up in his arms and fell to his knees. Zed and Na-Jessia rushed to Arrow’s side, helping him to stand.
“Rin non sindisa.” Blood Fairy language sung out through his tears.
The stone tree split apart to reveal a large portal made of opal waters. Arrow turned and said with every last ounce of energy he could muster, “If I move quickly, I can give Nika back her life.”
Arrow didn’t need to say any more; they all understood that he was going to see Alexander. Zed and Na-Jessia helped Arrow to the portal and he quickly disappeared through the opal waters. Zed flopped to the ground as Na-Jessia watched the beautiful portal blacken darker than the night.
Na-Jessia felt all hope flee from her body. “If she had never freed me, she would be OK,” Na-Jessia cried.
